Green bars in Call of Duty? Only in the old one.
by Jeremy

After fighting with Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2′s crappy 360 matchmaking system and relentless lag, it was oddly refreshing last night to pop in its predecessor, Treyarch’s Call of Duty: World at War, and find it connecting immediately to a local, all green-bar, Aussie-hosted match. The local filter, which Infinity Ward still refuses to include in its COD Modern Warfare games, functioned brilliantly and a good time was had by all.

The usual Modern Warfare experience

My point is this – Infinity Ward and their refusal to fix matchmaking for non-US customers truly sucks, and I really resent the fact I’ll be buying their DLC the second it comes out anyway.

UPDATE: While we’re on the subject, WHY THE HELL is the service that we have to pay for (Xbox Live) taking so long to implement a matchmaking patch that’s apparently already on the PS3? (Not a local filter, but an improvement – I’m told.) And why’s it taking so long to fix the ridiculous infinite emergency care drop glitch, that’s making the online game on 360 even more unplayable? That’s already been patched on PC – what the hell is Microsoft doing?

I thought they were claiming they were the “premier platform” for MW2? Doesn’t look like it from where I’m sitting.

Mass Effect 2 is out, MW2 will be collecting dust. Then on to BF:BC2 no more infinity ward for me.

I doubt BC2 will be any better – BC1 was much worse than WAW.

LOCAL FILTERS! WE WANT LOCAL BLOODY FILTERS!

Apparently MAG has local servers, which might make it worth a shot.

That matchmaking patch has not even been written for live by IW. The care package glitch patch is in certification.

Apparently Microsoft charges developers every times they put out an update on Live, so IW are holding back until they have a bunch of fixes before deploying them.

You’re kidding. Do you have a source?

If true, you’re saying that Microsoft deliberately screws up a “premium” paid service by discouraging patching by developers.

That is a pretty impressively silly business choice. But if true, not really uncommon for Microsoft. For years they refused to allow un-authorised copies of Windows to receive the critical updates that might have helped cut down the number of dangerous botnets that are used to bring down sites & services world-wide. Seems to be the same kind of short-sighted thinking.
